In the winter of 1990, I spent six weeks traveling in the canyons of Utah and the redwoods of California with a dog, car and oh yeah, a boyfriend. The following year, we bought a small pop up trailer that we towed with a VW Golf and traveled to Ashville NC, Charleston, Okeefanokee Swamp, Edisto Island in Georgia and landed at Mardi Gras in New Orleans just by luck. I was hooked. For the past 25 years I've been wanting to do this again, but one thing or the other made it just not feel like the "right time." So now it is. Me, dog, car. No boyfriend.

Boondockers Welcome Norwalk, CT

WELCOME BACK! for a tag  edition of "Me, Dog, Car"

So many of you expressed such an interest in my journey and followed along with such dedication, I thought I'd continue to post on how this is carrying forward for me here in CT.

I decided to open my driveway to those on the road who need a place to "land" for a few days (or in this recent case a couple of weeks). So many were so generous to me on my trip, I feel excited to be able to offer the same to others.

My guests are John McCann and Jessica Jones. They are a married couple from Houston TX. He's an entrepreneur
("I sell non-exploding vacuums"), software designer and other assorted businesses he can take on the road. She's an opera singer/actress and they travel together to her gigs all over the country (and eventually, the world!) In this case, to NYC for her to sing in the new opera about Steve Jobs called "The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs".

Boondockers Welcome is a nationwide registry of people who love to travel in some kind of RV (or as in my case, not!) and like to boondock, which means, staying in places other than RV campgrounds or public parks where you're squashed up right next to someone else.

You can host others in your driveway, be a guest in others driveways or both. But once you register, you can contact people and ask if they have space for you when you're passing through. And usually for free. Or very cheap.

NOT paying to sleep is a great way to make this kind of traveling VERY AFFORDABLE. And with the internet, it's almost impossible NOT to find some kind of boondocking almost anywhere you are!

John and Jessica are totally devoted to their rescue dogs, Nacho and Gizmo. Choochi meets Nacho for the first time.

John rescued Gizmo on the highway...... he had been hit by a car, had six broken ribs, nearly starved to death and had 6 bb pellets in him. HORRIBLE!  John took him immediately to the vet where he got the attention he needed to recover fully. WE LIKE JOHN AND JESSICA!

Gizmo is in Jessica's  studio/dressing room in their RV.

They have been doing this about one and a half  years and don't see any signs of slowing down. They enjoy the fact that they can be together while she's building her career as a performer, plus they get to have their dogs with them wherever they go. When she's done for the day, she always gets to "go home."

Some extra nice custom touches by John in their RV. Hand made parquet flooring and some beautiful bathroom features.

And here's Jessica's website........... check out the vocal tracks at the bottom. They're WOW!
Loved having them as guests. John has helped me do a little yard work as well.

STAYED TUNED FOR MORE STORIES FROM the ROAD!
